Fantastic Beasts:The Crimes Of Grindelwald Review
Having loved the last film, and now knowing that we would see more of the big stars like Johnny Depp and Jude Law, I was very much looking forward to seeing this Movie, little did I know that i'd be watching, not only the best of the two 'Fantastic Beasts' movies, but the best Wizarding World movie full stop! The best actors in this film, by far, are the main 3. That being Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Johnny Depp. Redmayne delivers the same lovable geek character that he did in the first movie, and it is just as good as it was then. Jude Law does a fantastic job as Hogwarts finest, Albus Dumbledore, and gives a convincing performance that this is the man we see mentor the boy who lived.
The film starts out with the president of the MACUSA, handing Grindelwald over to the British ministry of magic after spending 6 months in jail. as it turns out, Grindelwald had taken polyjuice potion and switched with one of the guards, and managed to escape custody with a wagon and some Thestrals, as well as the elder wand. When we cut to Newt a while later, he is attempting to have his travel ban lifted by the UK ministry, with the help of his brother Theseus (Callum Turner), however he is unsuccessful. On his way home, he is stopped by Dumbledore, who asks him to go to Paris and find Credence (Ezra Miller), because Newt is the person who was actually able to talk to Credence in the first movie. Although Newt is on the fence about leaving the country over fears of being placed in Azkaban, when he finds out from Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler) that Tina (Katherine Waterston) is in Paris as well, he decides to go.
Tina, who's also searching for Credence, finds him in a magical travelling circus, but when he manages to escape with Nagini (Claudia Kim), she speaks to another wizard who seeks the boy in order to find any information she can on his whereabouts. Newt and Jacob arrive in Paris via port key and after some city exploration, manage to find Tina and catch one of the creatures that escaped the circus. When the creature is caught, they go to a safe house that Dumbledore provided them with, which actually turns out to be the home of Nicholas Flemmel, the creator of the philosophers stone. Queenie runs into Grindelwald, who places a love enchantment on her so she becomes on of his followers. Then Grindelwald rally's his followers at a cemetery and begins his evil speech. During his speech, the Auras crowd into the tomb and try to take Grindelwald by surprise, but fail to do so. Grindelwald ends up killing Leta LeStrange (Newts ex girlfriend), and escaping with Queenie and Credence. The film ends with a shocking reveal which I will not spoil, and the heroes gearing up for battle.
Over all, this movie is a great sequel to the first one and an amazing prequel to the Harry Potter films. The creatures are fun and vibrant and the action is incredible! I'd recommend this film to anyone, even if you're not a Harry Potter fan. 8/10
